Players' Choice
Saturday, September 21, 2024 & Sunday, September 22 | 3:00PM
Players’ Choice is a unique program featuring repertory selected from each of the core musicians’ favorite composers: Amram, Ximénez, Doppler, and Bréval. We will leave it to you to guess which musician selected which piece! Join us on Saturday, September 21 at Old Saratoga Reformed in Schuylerville and Sunday, September 22 at the First Reformed Church of Scotia.
Linda Greene, founding flutist from 2000–2005, will return to join the ensemble from her position as the Buffalo Philharmonic Assistant Flute for this performance. She and Norm Thibodeau will share a special flute duet. In addition, Max Caplan will compose a new work for our core members for this celebratory performance. Max’s new piece has been commissioned by Judy Edwards in memory of her husband Dr. Keith Edwards. We look forward to honoring Dr. Edwards’ memory through this new composition.
Finally, a celebration dinner at the Turf Tavern in Scotia will follow the September 22 concert in honor of our instrumentalists, board members, and audience members who have served or supported Musicians of Ma’alwyck since the inception of the group.

Mayhem & Madness offers music from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries related to the chaotic titular theme, including a work by Guillaume-Pierre-Antoine Gatayes (1774–1846). Gatayes was a prolific composer and guitar player who lived in Paris during the time of the French Revolution. In fact, he resided in the same house as Jean-Paul Marat, a journalist and revolutionary leader whose murder was memorialized in the famous painting. The program celebrates these quirky musical characters among others.
